What Students Are Saying About The Guitar Lessons Academy

“I've always wanted to play guitar but was worried about not being able to understand how to read music or make the lessons stick...”

I've always wanted to play guitar but was worried about not being able to understand how to read music or make the lessons stick as I don't always remember things well. But Nate's lessons flow easily and are enjoyable to tune into, which is half the battle won really! It's enjoyable, therefore it doesn't feel like a chore.

Nate has a teaching style that puts you at ease with a warm and down to earth tone that makes him relatable and his lessons are enjoyable which makes you WANT to continue learning. Each step is dissected in a simple way so that beginners such as me can make sense of it all.

“I was concerned that learning from online videos might not be any better.”

One of my goals was to become a better musician, and to better understand music theory. This had been daunting and dull learning from books, and I was concerned that learning from online videos might not be any better. I was afraid the knowledge wouldn't stick.

Maybe the best part of Nate’s lessons is the order in which they are presented. Free lessons are great, but fumbling through in no particular order isn't the best way to learn new skills. Nate introduces new skills and combines them with practice of previously learned material that makes the learning stick. Nate presents everything clearly, and each lesson is just another small step on the path. None of the lessons are overwhelming or trying to provide too much at one time.

I had guitar lessons for 5 or 6 years. I learned more in the first year of taking lessons from Nate than I had learned in those lessons or the last 20 years of learning on my own. I was barely an intermediate guitarist when I started with the course, but went back and took all the lessons from the beginning. It was surprising that I learned things in the beginning section that I had missed all these years. I play for fun, not professionally, but I would think any guitarist at any level would learn from this course. It is ridiculously inexpensive considering the content. Thanks Nate!

“After a hiatus of over 30 years of not playing guitar I started to play again. Nate’s teaching has really helped me refresh my old skills and learn new ones.”

After a hiatus of over 30 years of not playing guitar I started to play again. Nate’s teaching has really helped me refresh my old skills and learn new ones. The way the lessons are a series of short videos helps me learn new things without feeling totally overwhelmed. Nate’s teaching style and communication skills really help me with grasping the concepts he is teaching.

He explains things simply and doesn’t overload you with too much information at the same time. The range of lessons is large enough that there is something for every skill level and it keeps growing. The community forum is awesome too. It is so cool to interact with other guitar players from around the world.

“The biggest surprise is the interactivity. The updates, the forum, the live stuff. It’s not just a website with lessons. It’s this living, active thing.”

Nate has a great style that projects a genuine passion for what he’s teaching. This approach is a great blend of the best features of all the other options I’ve tried, but better. And the interactive community atmosphere is far and away better than anything I’ve come across.

The detail of the lessons and videos really get clear what is being taught. The relevant documentation and audio being right there with the lesson makes it very convenient. And the backing tracks are spectacular. Having a custom written track that focuses on exactly what you’re working on and nothing more is priceless.

The biggest surprise is the interactivity. The updates, the forum, the live stuff. It’s not just a website with lessons. It’s this living, active thing. The community is wonderful… and motivating… and helpful. And the fact that the guys that make this thing are there involved and active is just great.

“Nate takes the time to personally reply to questions either by email or through the forum. There is no doubt he is a busy guy, but he cares about the program…”

The first thing I noticed was Nate’s passion about teaching people the guitar. You can tell he has spent a great deal of time thinking about what it takes to teach someone the guitar. I know from my own experience it’s not easy to teach someone something they have no clue about (trust me…). And Nate has done a great job in the videos explaining everything from changing out the strings to playing higher level songs. The sessions have structure to them, but they feel like they are occurring right in your family room.

Nate takes the time to personally reply to questions either by email or through the forum. There is no doubt he is a busy guy, but he cares about the program so he takes the time to deal with people who have paid for the service. No questions are too stupid to ask. I appreciate what Nate and the crew are doing.

“I’m in my late 50’s working a 50 hour a week job and taking care of an income property. I did not think I would find value with a lesson program...”

I did not think I could find the time to take any kind of structured lessons. I’m in my late 50’s working a 50 hour a week job and taking care of an income property. I did not think I would find value with a lesson program, but I’ve progressed a lot faster using GuitarLessons.com.

The ability to learn the skills I want in the order I want is useful. This motivated me to practice smarter and to get to my goals faster. Nate’s teaching style opened my mind to what learning to play the guitar was all about. I like the way the lessons and plans work with each other.

It’s great to be part of such a fun loving community. I would just like to thank Nate and all the other people involved with GuitarLessons.com for starting me off in the right direction on my journey into guitar playing.

"How is an online program going to teach a person who never picked up the guitar how to play? I emailed a few of those program directors asking questions.”

I am going through a transitional phase in my life. Due to health reasons my physical activity has decreased significantly. I needed a new hobby and something I always wanted to learn was how to play the guitar. I knew learning an instrument was going to be very hard and I could not drive to go anywhere to get lessons. I found a few programs online that promised to teach you how to play the guitar. I was very skeptical. How is an online program going to teach a person who never picked up the guitar how to play? I emailed a few of those program directors asking questions. Nate was the most helpful instructor and answered all of my questions. I spent a few weeks going back and forth with him through email, before I was convinced this program could help me learn from the start.

I was glad that I did sign up form the program. The program starts out teaching you how to hold the guitar and pick and the first thing you play is a one note practice lesson. Once I heard my guitar sound like his in the video I knew that I could do this. The videos show multiple angles. Some other video lessons I’ve seen are filmed at one angle and you cannot see the detail on how to play a certain cord like you can in these lessons. It will take you from never holding a guitar to playing more difficult strumming patterns and licks. You will need to put time into it to get everything out of it, but you can do it at your own pace.

“I have had several big leaps forward in my playing due to the lessons and motivation of GuitarLessons.com.”

I first started playing guitar on Rocksmith, so I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I tried some apps, watched some videos online and messed around for about a year. That’s when I knew to try something else. I have looked at a lot of programs and have never found anything close to GuitarLessons.com.

Nate does a nice job of keeping each lesson simple and showing how to perform everything. I also like when he shows how to make the jam-track more musical instead of just playing scales or chords. I have had several big leaps forward in my playing due to the lessons and motivation of GuitarLessons.com. I look forward to getting better and know I am on the right track.

“Nate has something to offer everyone at any level, and he knows how to offer what the level needs. He doesn’t talk or teach above or below you.”

I wasn’t sure I would be able to learn with online instruction. I checked out YouTube videos of instructors and really liked Nate’s style the most. His lessons are organized and well planned. Others seem to bounce all over the place or are so impressed with themselves that they talk down to students.

Nate has something to offer everyone at any level, and he knows how to offer what the level needs. He doesn’t talk or teach above or below you. Each lesson is presented with respect for the audience. And we are not distracted by volume, equipment or production issues. Everything is professionally done and the lessons are fun to go through and enjoyable to watch.

“That you can go into the forum and say “I’m new and I’m struggling with an open A chord” and people are supportive and offer advice…”

I like Nate’s teaching style. I can’t really put a finger on why, but I seem to find Nate’s approach and style of teaching to help me better than all other things I’ve used to learn the guitar. I like the lesson plans and series as they give me a structure to my learning. And I like the live sessions, particularly the focused play along sessions as they give me the chance to get some real time feedback from the community and team which I’ve found helpful.

The fact that there is a supportive community of people at all different stages of ability is probably what I have liked the most. That you can go into the forum and say “I’m new and I’m struggling with an open A chord” and people are supportive and offer advice rather than being disrespectful because you are struggling with something they find easy is great for my enthusiasm and motivation. There are a lot of guitar forums out there, so it’s nothing special in that regard, but the fact that it is a really respectful and supportive community is the best element of the site for me.

"As with any web based training you always are concerned with is it legit or is it a scam? Will the information be useful or repetitive? Will it have value to me?"

As with any web based training you always are concerned with is it legit or is it a scam? Will the information be useful or repetitive? Will it have value to me? I am a 45 year old man who works hard with my hands each day. I haven't played in 30 years so will I be able to learn and be good at it?

Using Nate’s lessons has been a blessing to me. The lessons cover so many forms of guitar playing. I love that I can work at my own pace. Focusing on the styles that I like best but still being able to gain knowledge on other styles. Through the postings on the lessons and personal communication you feel you are part of a community. I like that it is web based allowing for updates and additions to the program.

“I signed up for a series of lessons at a local music store... I hated it. I quit and didn't try to play again for a long time.”

I have been trying to play the guitar for about 25 years. I received an old acoustic guitar for Christmas and went out a bought a book. That didn't go well. I signed up for a series of lessons at a local music store, but the instructor was old and he had me playing 1930s and 1940s show tunes. I hated it. I quit and didn't try to play again for a long time. I thought about taking more lessons, but they were expensive, and with the bad experience I had previously, I was reluctant. Eventually, I purchased a DVD series of lessons. It was okay, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

When I saw Nate’s lessons I was intrigued so I signed up. I've not had this much fun with the guitar since that Christmas many years ago. I enjoy the lessons and I'm learning things quickly. That motivates me to continue and to keep getting better.

I appreciated that the lessons began with the very basics. I was having difficulty making certain chords and doing quick chord changes, but I quickly found out that I was holding the guitar wrong. I changed that and I've had much less trouble since. I like that each lesson is short and doesn't give so much information that I feel overwhelmed. I can work on each skill until I feel comfortable and then move on.

“I really like the fact that I can work at my own pace. Some weeks I have more time and can move through several lessons/songs and other weeks I have less time.”

The online videos work great for me. I can watch a few lessons, work on the things presented, and go back and re-watch the lessons if I need to. I really like the fact that I can work at my own pace. Some weeks I have more time and can move through several lessons/songs and other weeks I have less time.

Nate’s style is easy. He is very talented but can explain concepts to me at my beginner level. The lesson plans are great for keeping me focused on a topic and I really enjoy the songs that reinforce particular skills. I have found the live lessons to be great. I am not really a joiner, but I enjoy the interaction between Andrew and Nate. It is interesting to see the different approaches to playing the same thing.

“Nate has a relaxed approach to all his lessons. He keeps everything in small portions, so I never feel overwhelmed with too much information.”

Nate has a relaxed approach to all his lessons. He keeps everything in small portions, so I never feel overwhelmed with too much information. I like the structured plans that incorporate several lessons into a cohesive group. There are many topics to choose from, such as blues, folk, rock, bluegrass, fingerpicking, acoustic, electric and many more.

A specific thing I like about GuitarLessons.com is the detail which Nate goes into. As an example, picking technique is thoroughly covered. Although it may seem minor as opposed to the study of music and how to play it, this technique is very important and will impact our ability to play well.

“Nate is a natural born teacher. He is patient, thorough, clearly explains new material, builds a solid foundation for any technique and progresses one step at a time.”

I wanted to develop my ability to play lead riffs and fills between chord changes. I have taken online lessons for 4 years that did not cover these aspects. I have played for over 5 decades - have an excellent sense of rhythm & many strumming techniques - yet lacked the understanding to cover the lead playing.

Nate is a natural born teacher. He is patient, thorough, clearly explains new material, builds a solid foundation for any technique and progresses one step at a time. The lessons are well organized and are very easy to access. He offers downloads and practice tracks, reading music & tablature, etc. This course is far more comprehensive than any I've seen and it pays big dividends if one puts in the sweat equity to learn these things.

If you are considering buying the lessons - just jump in and get started. If you have played a long time & already have good skills - breeze through the basic lessons - you'll learn something new even there. Then get on to the more advanced lessons and put in the woodshed practice time. In no time you'll be hearing and playing songs and lead parts that you never recognized before. Your intuitive skills will skyrocket and you'll be off and running!

“My wife has stated that I have made great improvements in my playing. It’s obvious that I have found an instructor and system that has helped me get there.”

I have been playing guitar since 1985 and have never felt like a guitar player until taking Nate’s lessons. My wife has stated that I have made great improvements in my playing. It’s obvious I that I have found an instructor and system that has helped me get there.

I am very happy with the quality of the videos and the freedom to take lessons when I want. They are better than the one on one teaching I have previously taken. The structured plans have allowed me to set specific goals and stick to them.
