Guitar Theory, Ear Training, & Reading

This series has covered the essential ear training skills needed when learning songs by ear.

The first four lessons are all focused on training your ear, while the final four lessons revolve around using music theory to help learn songs by ear.

The 8 steps are:

  1. Active Listening
  2. Matching Pitch
  3. Identifying Root Notes
  4. Deciphering Major & Minor Chords ( ⬅️ this lesson! )
  5. Song Form
  6. Identifying Chord Progression
  7. Finding the Key
  8. Practicing

This is lesson four -- the last of the “ear training” lessons -- and I’m going to show you how to decipher major and minor chords when you hear them. If this is something you’ve never done before, building this skill will require quite a bit of practice and patience, and along with anything related to ear training, it will come easier to some than others.

By the end of the video, you’ll have a better idea of how to decipher major chords from minor chords, all in an effort to help you figure out your favorite songs that much quicker and easier.
