7 Songs To Rock Your Power Chords

7 Songs To Rock Your Power Chords

Guitar Lessons For Beginners

In this guitar lesson, Nate Savage is here to share seven great songs for working on your power chords. Power chords are an absolute staple in every guitar player’s arsenal. If you want to play rock music, they are a totally essential tool you’ll likely use more than any other type of guitar chord.

Power chords are commonly referred to as “5 chords”. This is because they only contain the root note and the fifth. This is unlike most chords you might play which have a root, third, and a fifth. Since power chords don’t have a major or minor third, they can be played in place of either chord. This quality makes them extra handy to pull out in a pinch.

The songs you’ll learn in this guitar lesson are “Beverly Hills” by Weezer, “When You Were Young” by The Killers, “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba, “Use Somebody” by Kings Of Leon, “1979” by The Smashing Pumpkins, “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World, and “All The Small Things” by Blink 182.

Choose a few of these tunes that you’d like to incorporate into your daily practice time. And be sure to download the tabs so you can follow along!
