Learn How To Play 'Rock You Like A Hurricane' On The Guitar!

The song “Rock You Like A Hurricane” by The Scorpions is a great tune to learn for working on your power chords. The song is pretty simple. You just need to be able to move your basic power chord shape around the fretboard and put some simple rhythms with it. If you are playing an electric guitar make sure that you have a good amount of distortion on your amp and are using your bridge pickup. Take your time learning this song and if you have a friend that plays, see if you can get them to play it along with you. We have provided you with the TAB and sheet music for the main riff of the song.

The power chords that you will be using in this song are E, G, A, C, and D. If you don’t know your power chords yet go check out the lesson Guitar Power Chords. Start off by playing an E power chord with your 1st finger on the 7th fret of the 5th string and your 3rd finger on the 9th fret of the 4th string. Play that chord 3 times. After you play that chord for the 3rd time slide down to a G power chord with your 1st finger on the 3rd fret of the 6th string and your 3rd finger on the 5th fret of the 5th string. Play that chord 2 times and then mute the strings.

Move that shape up two frets so that you 1st finger is on the 5th fret of the 6th string and you 3rd finger is on the 7th fret of the 5th string. This is your A power chord. Play that 2 times and mute the strings again. Play a C power chord 1 time by placing your 1st finger on the 3rd fret of the 5th string and your 3rd finger on the 5th fret of the 4th string. Mute those notes right after you play them. Finish off the riff by playing a D power chord 2 times and them muting it. Play this D power chord by placing your 1st finger on the 5th fret of the 5th string and your 3rd finger on the 7th fret of the 4th string.

Once you get the sequence of the chords and the rhythms down, all you have to do is loop the riff over and over again. Make sure you are muting the strings in between the chord changes. This gives the song a lot of its style and feel. The rhythm parts to rock songs like this can be simple to play but they also sound really cool. Learning song like this is a great way to practice moving around your power chords instead of just moving them around in a random way.
