Learn How To Play 'Back In Black' by ACDC on the Guitar!

In this lesson we are going to be learning the classic song "Back in Black" by ADCD. This is a really fun song to learn if you are a beginner. It is sounds way harder than it actually is, and you only have to know a few basic chord shapes to be able to play most of it. The chords that you will need to know are your open D and G chords and your A, B, and E power chords. Other than the basic chords that we will be using, there are really only two other licks that you need to learn. We have provided you with the chord diagrams and tabs that you need to learn this song. Crank up the distortion up on your amp, and make sure that you are using your bridge pickup.

The first part of this song is just an E power chord, a D chord, and an A power chord. Pretty easy right. If it seems a bit difficult to follow the rhythm on the sheet music, just watch the video a few times until you start to memorize the rhythm. The next thing that you need to learn is that famous E minor pentatonic lick. Start out by playing the 3rd fret of the 1st string with your 3rd finger. Now play the 1st string open. Repeat this pattern on the 2nd string. Play the 3rd fret on the 2nd string with your 3rd finger and then play the 2nd string open. Here comes the harder part of the lick. Take your middle finger and play the 2nd fret of the 3rd string. Now bend that note up a whole step and let it back down. Finish off the lick by playing your 3rd string open. As soon as the lick is finished you have to go right back in to the E bar chord, so make sure to be ready for that. If you have never played a lick like this, it may seem a bit difficult to bend that 3rd string up a whole step. Just be patient with yourself, practice your bending a lot, and your fingers will get strong pretty quickly.

Now that you have learned the first lick in this song, let's learn the last one. This lick is a bit easier. Play the 7th fret of your low E string with your 4th finger. Come back down to the 4th fret of your low E string and play that note with your 1st finger. Play the 7th fret of your low E with your 4th finger again and then move to your 5th fret of your low E with your 2nd finger. Continue with the 7th fret again and go to the 6th fret with your 3rd finger. Now hit the 7th fret of your low E twice. Right after you hit that last note on the 7th fret, use your pinky to slide down on the low E string, once you slide down, go right back to the E power chord. In order to play the chorus of "Back in Black" all you will need to know are your A, B, and E power chords, and your open G and D chords. Again if you are having trouble reading the rhythms on the sheet music, just watch the video several times and you will catch on. Not to bad. You just learned a great classic rock song with just a hand-full of chords and two riffs. Take the things that you have learned from this song and experiment with them in your own everyday playing.
