Line 6 POD 2.0

Learn About The Line 6 POD 2.0 In This Guitar Gear Review!

Overview

The POD 2.0 is guitar processor based on modeling technology. That just means that the genius guys at Line 6 somehow made software versions of tons of famous amps, cabinets and effects and jammed them all in to one little metal kidney bean looking unit. You can use the POD 2.0 to record, play live by going directly in to a mixer or go right in to your amp. There are a ton of great amp models that can help you to conjure up just about any sound for any style of music that you can imagine.

Price   -   9/10

$199.99

Great price compared to competing products.

Sound Quality   -   8/10

For something that does not have tubes or speakers in it this thing rocks and it is versatile too. I found great tones for country, rock, metal, blues, jazz and just about anything else you could think of. The tone can be a little flat here and there but compared to a lot of other modeling products the POD 2.0 does a pretty darn good job of recreating amps that I love.

Build Quality   -   9/10

It is actually made of metal. I like that. Probably won’t break on you if you accidentally drop or step on it.

Features   -   8/10

• 32 amp models

• 15 cabinet models

• 16 effects or combinations of effects

• Tap tempo for time based effects

• Headphone jack

• Direct A.I.R technology

• Left and Right outputs

• MIDI In and Out

Ease of Use   -   9/10

Super easy to use. Dialing in a specific tone and saving it is easy to do right out of the box. Recording is easy too. Just plug in and go. The only complaint I have is that I had to have the manual handy to see all what all of the secondary functions for all of the knobs were.

Pros

• This unit is really easy to use. All of the controls are laid out right in front of you so you don’t have to scroll through any menus or led screens. Just select what amp and cab you want and add effects to taste.

• The portability of the POD 2.0 is another great feature. If you are going to a rehearsal or just over to a friend’s house to record you can just grab your guitar and you POD and you are good to go.

• The versatility of the POD 2.0 is really nice if you are in a cover band or just in to many different styles of music. You get everything from grinding metal to smooth jazz.

• Tons of built in effects make it hard not to like.

• Power supply is included unlike some other competing products.

Cons

• Let’s face the POD 2.0 is not an amp. No matter how good the modeling technology is you really can’t replace moving actual air with cranked up amp.

• If you want to use the 2.0 in a live situation you really have to buy a foot controller to go with it.

• Secondary functions for knobs are kind of a pain to memorize.

• Tuner is not the most accurate in the world.

Overall Rating   -   8.6/10

I think that this product is a great value for the money. When compared to other comparable products I feel the sound quality is a bit better. POD 2.0 makes dialing in great tones for recording and live applications easy and affordable.
