Planet Waves Clip-On Tuner
Learn About The Planet Waves Clip-On Tuner In This Gear Review!
| Overview |
Clip-on tuners generally seem to be either pretty expensive or pretty poor in quality. The Planet Waves Chromatic Headstock Tuner is accurate and inexpensive. You can use this type of tuner on any kind of stringed instrument as long as there is a place on which you can clip it. Electric guitars, acoustic guitars, mandolins, basses, banjos and tons of other instruments can be tuned with this little guy.

I remember the first time a saw a headstock clip-on style tuner. It was $70 and it kind of died on me after about two years. At only $25, The Planet Waved Chromatic Headstock Tuner seems like a smoking deal when compared to that particular tuner.
| Build Quality - 8.5/10 |
I have had a lot of clip-on tuners in my hands and this one feels pretty solid to me. The main reason for this is that the design of the tuner doesn’t really have any parts that could snap off or break. The accuracy of this tuner is just as good if not better than any other clip on tuner that I have used.
If you plan on playing indoors or dark gigs the backlit LCD display is very easy to see. It is very bright, clear and colorful. If you plan on playing any outdoor gigs you might want to bring another tuner along with you. The sunlight makes the display kind of hard to read, but that is the case with most tuner displays.

If you are looking for an accurate clip-on style tuner that won’t break easily, and won’t break the bank, the Planet Waves Chromatic Headstock Tuner is a great option for you to consider. If you play other stringed instruments you can also use it to tune those as well.
The only real draw back that I saw to this tuner was the unusual battery that it uses. That isn’t really a big deal though. You can find the flat watch-style battery that it uses pretty much anywhere. Just think ahead and buy an extra if you get this great tuner.
