Overview
The FGX720SCA is Yamaha’s entry-level solid top, acoustic-electric that comes with a cutaway. This guitar has a lot of really nice features that you might expect to pay more than $400 for but don’t have to.
The sound of this guitar is a little flat when compared to other solid top acoustic guitars but at the same time I can think of several solid top guitars in this price range that don’t have near the tone of the FGX720SCA.
I can think of a couple of acoustic-electric guitars for a couple of hundred dollars more that would blow this one out of the water but nothing in the same price range is necessarily better.

$399.99 - $419.99 depending on finish. Lot’s of cool features for under $400. A Solid top, electronics, cutaway, and a built in tuner to name a few.
Sound Quality - 7/10
This guitar is a little flat sounding. By that I mean that the bass is not quite there but it still sounds pretty good for $400. I do think that this Yamaha sounds better than many other brands, Takamine or Ibanez for example, with the same features and in the same price range.
The electronics sound pretty good when plugged in, not super special but better than average for the price.
Build Quality - 7.5/10
You can definitely tell that this guitar is cranked out on an assembly line but it was a really good assembly line. I really have not seen too many problems with the Yamaha acoustic electrics guitars over the years. Simple but effective.

Overall Rating - 8/10
I think that this guitar is priced pretty well for what you get. I would not pay more than $400 for it but you definitely get your $400 worth. The built in tuner and electronics are nice. If you are looking for an acoustic electric with a lot of cool features this is an option to look at. If you are looking for a straight up great sounding acoustic you might want to look at something that focuses more on tone and less on features.
