| Overview |
Learn and Master Guitar by the folks at Legacy Learning Systems is a really cool home learning course. It starts with on the absolute beginner level and goes through many of the styles and techniques that one needs to know in order to really play the guitar. It seems to be geared toward a bit of an older audience but it will really work for anyone. The DVD’s, play along CD’s, book and online resources really cover most of the topics that you will need to know in order to build a sound foundation for playing the guitar. The instructor, Steve Krez, has a kind and patient aura about him that will make you feel pretty comfortable while you are learning.
Learn & Master Guitar is great if you are looking to lay a thorough course that covers a lot of different types of music and techniques. Chords, Scales, Fingerpicking, Jazz, Rock, Country, Soloing, Strumming, Reading Music and Music Theory are some of the topics that are covered in pretty great detail throughout the course.

| What You Get |
DVD’s - The Original Edition of Learn & Master Guitar comes with 10 Lesson DVD’s that are packed full of great guitar instructional information. If you opt for the Expanded Edition you get 20 DVD’s. The content on the extra 10 DVD’s are essentially workshops that recap the concepts and techniques covered in the lessons and help walk you through practicing those concepts and techniques. They also contain a ton of exercises not included in the Lesson DVD’s. If you are not a very disciplined person the extra practice sessions will definitely be worth the cash.
Book – The Learn & Master Guitar book is packed with useful information and all of the musical examples that are in the Lesson DVD’s. I was a little disappointed with the lay out of the book. It seemed a bit rushed and squished up at times. There are only 107 pages to cover all of the topics on 10 DVD’s. Never the less there the book is a great resource. If you buy the Expanded Edition and want the musical examples for the Workshop DVD’s you have to download the large PDF file from the Learn & Master Guitar Resources page. Cool resource but I wish they were included in the actual book.
5 Play-Along CD’s – If you have ever bought a play-along CD you probably know that sometimes they can be pretty bad or cheesy. This is not the case with the Learn & Master Guitar play-along CD’s. I was pretty happy with the quality of the tracks and all of the styles that they covered. The only thing that I was a little disappointed about was that the CD’s did not have alternate versions with the guitars tracks removed.
Online Resources – The forums and the downloadable online content make up the majority of the online resources for Learn & Master Guitar. If you have specific questions or just want to become a part of the Learn & Master Guitar community, the forum is a great place to spend some time. The online resources page also includes downloadable PDF’s of the exercises on the Workshop DVD’s and chord charts to help you remember all of your new chords.

I do think that this product should be called “Learn and Get Pretty Good At Guitar” instead of “Learn & Master Guitar”. I say that because this program will get you to about the mid-intermediate level of playing guitar. Having said that, you really can’t master the guitar with 40 or even 50 DVD’s but this product does thouroughly get you started on the right foot in a lot of different styles.
I think that Steve Krenz did a really good job of putting together a balanced program that will give you a good foundation for what ever style(s) of music that you would like to pursue. You can really tell that he knows his stuff. I do wish that the play along CD’s had a version of the songs without the guitar track so that you could be the guitar player in the band but they are still good and cover a lot of different styles of music.
The expanded edition is great to kind of force you to practice but like every other product out on the market you really have to be motivated to practice on your own to see real results. Steve does a good job of encouraging you to practice and put the work in to reach your own specific guitar goals
Learn & Master Guitar seems to be geared toward a bit of an older audience, 30+ but anyone can learn tons from it if they apply themselves. If you are looking for a guitar home study product that will teach you techniques, styles, theory and overall fundamentals of playing the guitar this is a pretty great option.
